Too much of a good thing?

Less is more when talking Dermal Fillers

In today’s world, we have become accustomed to “bigger is better” It is splashed around and saturates our senses daily through the channels of digital and print media. The cosmetic industry is unfortunately not immune, and we can all attest to seeing BIG lips, BIG cheeks, and bold statements when it comes to injectable treatments.

The desire for “BIG” is often multifactorial. For one, the patient might request as such, or the injecting Practitioner might be a little enthusiastic. In addition, societal pressure is not to be underestimated, and Western aesthetics perceive these features of youth and beauty.

There are techniques that can be employed to ensure this doesn’t happen to your face.

  1. Talk with your injector. Ensure they invest time in you, and ascertain what it is YOU want to achieve (before they pick up the syringe)
  2. Ask about the different types of filler available. Educate yourself on the different consistencies, functions, and results that can be achieved with each type. Your practitioner will be able to justify his/her application and use.
  3. Start low and go slow. That old adage! You can always add and enhance your treatment, but it is difficult (and costly) to reverse or remove it, so plan for a gradual progression of change and improvement.
  4. Explore your options. Is filler the right product for you? Do you require an anti-wrinkle, laser therapy, skin treatment, or surgery? Have the chat and open the forum for discussion.
