Skin Rejuvenation

anti-wrinkle treatments & fillers

What must I absolutely avoid after my treatment?

While all of our treatments will have individual precautions to follow, I strongly recommend staying out of sunlight after your treatment. I will provide you with additional information pertinent to each of your treatments.

What is the down time for my treatment? Can I go back to work afterwards?

The great thing about my rejuvenative anti-wrinkle treatment is there's virtually no downtime. You might have small red bumps that look like bug bites at first, but they usually go away within the hour and you can waltz back into work with no one the wiser.

I do recommend some consideration after filler treatment, particularly to the lips and peri-oral area. As these areas are supplied by a concentrated vascular network, bruising and swelling to the lips and surrounding areas is a risk, and thus I advise planning these treatments when appropriate downtime can be factored in to lifestyle and social events.

When will I start to see results?

For anti-wrinkle injectables, noticeable results should appear around within 4-5 days of treatment. Skin starts to feel tighter and look brighter. It can take up to 2 weeks to see the full results. If you have static lines & wrinkles, they may begin to lessen over time and with repeated treatments.

Filler is noticeable immediately, which is a combination of the structural support from the hyaluronic acid gel, and swelling. Best results of the filler can be expected from 2 weeks, when any potential bruising and swelling has subsided, and the gel has hydrated and softened into place.

I have an important event coming up. How far in advance should I plan any treatments?

I recommend a minimum of 2 weeks lead time prior to any event for rejuvenation and refresh. This way we can ensure the result is as natural as possible, and allows correction of any asymmetry if need be.

How long will results last?

Just how everyone’s hair grows at its own pace, everyone's results last for different lengths of time. But typically, you can expect results to last 3-4 months for anti-wrinkle injectables, and between 6 and 12 months for filler, depending on the area.

Does that mean I need to come back every 3 months?

Again, everyone's different. Some people choose to let results wear off completely and then come back for another treatment when ready. But some people find they experience better results if they stay just ahead of the treatment wearing off.

Do your skin rejuvenation treatments hurt?

While it's pretty low on the pain threshold, I’m more than happy to numb you with a topical analgesic if you like.

Is there any bruising?

I use a topical anesthetic before making injections to help minimise any discomfort during the treatment. I also use an ice pack before and after. You can also take Panadol before and after to help reduce any pain. You may experience bruising and swelling, which can take 1-2 weeks to go away. Therefore, I don't recommend scheduling your appointment right before a big event.

Are there any other side effects I should know about?

Headache, minor bruising or swelling at the injection site are the most common but still rare side effects. Others are much less common, but we're happy to discuss them with you during consultation if you're concerned.

I’m pregnant or nursing. Can I be treated with anti-wrinkle treatments or dermal fillers?

I recommend avoiding neuromodulator treatments and dermal fillers during pregnancy and while nursing.

Are the effects of Silhouette Soft® immediate?

Through the repositioning of the fat deposits and elevation of the skin, Silhouette Soft® restores the face and neck shape and redefines specifically cheek and jawline contours. The suspension suture and cones technology repositions the skin and fat, particularly around the cheeks and jawline, to give definition and provide immediate effects.

How long does Silhouette Soft® last?

Long-term effects come from the body’s foreign body reaction, which stimulates collagen synthesis from the activation of the fibroblasts present in the skin. This stimulation occurs in the tissue area surrounding the suture and cones. Collagen production is naturally reduced with ageing and therefore this ‘re-stimulation’ is pivotal to providing long-term improvement of the face and neck contours.

Is Silhouette Soft® safe?

Silhouette Soft® suspension sutures are made from PLLA and PLGA (Poly L Lactic acid & Poly Lactic-co-Glycolic acid), that has been utilised safely in medicine for decades.

Does Silhouette Soft® have any side effects?

Silhouette Soft® can cause a minimal inflammatory reaction, due to the insertion of a foreign body into the skin. This is a well-known reaction and common to all minimally invasive aesthetic treatments. In some cases, patients can experience minor pain, as well swelling and bruising can also occur.

What is the recovery period for Silhouette Soft®?

The recovery period for Silhouette Soft® can vary depending on a variety of factors, and can be anywhere between a few days and up to two weeks.

What is bruxism?

Bruxism is the medical term for unconscious teeth clenching or teeth grinding, which generally occurs while asleep. It can be very distressing for patients and cause wear of the teeth and headaches. Patients often complain of a morning headache because they have been tensing and grinding the teeth at night.

Why does bruxism cause headaches?

If you place your fingers on your temples and grind your teeth you can feel the muscle ‘temporalis’ contracting. Imagine that you are contracting this muscle over and over again in your sleep and you get a good understanding of why patients wake up with headaches.

How do anti-wrinkle injections treat bruxism / tooth grinding?

Anti-wrinkle injections reduce the strength of the bite muscle – also known as the masseter muscle. This reduces the ability to grind the back teeth at night which can reduce the symptoms of tooth wear, jaw ache and headache that patients can experience as a result of grinding.

How long does it take for bruxism treatment to work after anti-wrinkle injections?

It takes at least 10 days for the effects to be noticed. We feel that at 6 weeks after treatment you will have the best effect.

How long does a Bruxism treatment last after anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections for bruxism last, ideally, 2-4 months with the correct amount of units injected. It can vary from person to person.

Do the injections for bruxism hurt?

Masseter injections for bruxism really are not painful. There may be a small sting when we place the injection in the muscle but that is about it.

Will I bruise after bruxism treatment?

There is a very small chance of a tiny pinprick bruise after anti-wrinkle injections but this is not common.
