Smoothing Deep Wrinkles with the Fern Pattern Technique

LONG LASTING & NATURAL SKIN SMOOTHING RESULTS FOR AGING SKIN

An innovative technique in the field of dermal injectables is achieving beautifully natural results for patients with deep wrinkles and aging skin.

“I would like to achieve a longer lasting and more natural result” is the number one request of my patients when consulting for a dermal filler treatment. Mobile facial folds - or deep wrinkles such as naso-labial folds - represent a greater challenge for correction using standard injection techniques.

However, I believe the Fern Pattern Technique will achieve greater skin smoothing and firming along with a more natural result for my patients AND use less dermal filler product at the same time, making the treatment a very appealing option for many.

In the art of dermal fillers, it’s the injection technique that determines the result. Obviously, the use of the best materials is essential however it is the optimal injection techniques performed at the hand of a skilled cosmetic physician that will largely determine the cosmetic result. An example of an innovative technique in this field of injectables is the “Fern Pattern Technique.”

The Fern Pattern Technique™ was developed by internationally recognised Dutch cosmetic physician Tom van Eijk in 2005 after he experienced disappointment with the aesthetic results of conventional injection techniques.

The premise of the technique is to use fillers not only to fill underneath a wrinkle but to also strengthen the skin strategically, thus influencing the dynamics of the face.

The result is a more natural and longer lasting result for patients, whilst using less product. I find that in performing the Fern Pattern Technique, the wrinkle is no longer just ‘filled’ but the positioning of the dermal filler also acts to strengthen and reinforce the skin itself and stimulate collagen production for months after the treatment.

What is the Fern Pattern Technique?

The Fern Pattern injection technique proved that strengthening the skin was possible without distorting the face in an unnatural way. The technique involves injecting hyaluronic acid precisely according to a certain pattern (in the shape of a fern leaf) into the appropriate skin layer.

Firm and Smooth Skin:

The technique allows the physician to very accurately restore the firmness of the skin so that the natural contours of the face are emphasised again. In particular, skin that has been damaged by acne or sunlight can be corrected very effectively.

The benefit of collagen production:

When Restylane is injected into the skin, the cells themselves will start producing more collagen in the months to come. The pattern of firmness which the Fern Pattern Technique created is enhanced and replaced after some time by a skin with enriched collagen. This results in a correction that will last for years, especially after repetitive treatments.

Treatment Regime:

In your initial consultation for the technique, I will undertake a complete assessment and propose a treatment regime to make the best use of skin-stimulating properties of hyaluronic acid. This may mean that every few months a treatment is planned to gradually work towards a natural and optimal cosmetic correction. Once the desired result is achieved, a touch up once every 12 to 18 months will be adequate.
