What to expect in your Prescriptive Skincare consultation

When it comes to skincare, no two people are the same and I don’t believe the products should be either.

What can I expect in a custom skincare consultation?

My consultations can be done in-person or via tele-health, with the caveat that if we’re planning an online consultation (phone or Facetime) then it’s necessary that I have some good quality images of the area of concern and we do the tele-health in a well-lit environment so I can see what’s going on. In this WFH age, I think we’ve all got a good grasp of those requirements!

I also need a thorough knowledge of what products and medications you’re using. By all means, bring everything into your consultation with you, or take a photo of the products. Think about how you’re using the products, when you’re using the products and how long you’ve been using the products. What effects have you noticed? What would you like to achieve? Have you had adverse reactions to anything in the past?

I want to emphasise that there is no judgement about what you might have been using in the past. Those choices were not wrong. My primary goal is to find cost-effective and efficacious improvements for you!

A custom skincare consultation generally takes about 30 minutes and you will leave your appointment with a plan of action and recommendation of products or any referrals if necessary. If I recommend a bespoke product be compounded for you then it is entirely at your discretion as to when to order; you just let me know when you’d like the script sent to my pharmacist. An indication of the price of the compounded skincare will also be emailed to you.

It all sounds a bit complex. Is it time consuming or confusing to manage the skincare regimen?

Straightforward and uncomplicated. That’s what I’m aiming for. Because I’m custom-creating a solution to address your specific concern, this provides me the opportunity to choose high-performance ingredients targeted for you and your lifestyle and formulate them into a single treatment. Many patients comment how they’ve been able to replace several bottles – and steps – within their daily regimen with a single treatment.

And I provide all my patients with a plan on how to use their prescription, along with guidance of when to consider any amendments or adjustments in the regimen.

How long do the products take to make?

Once you have decided to fill your custom skincare prescription, I email that script to my compounding pharmacist and we will also email out an indication of the pricing of this product.

The pharmacist will also contact the patient direct – usually with 24 t 48 hours – to take payment and organise delivery of the product.

Do they need to be stored anywhere special?

Some products may need to be refrigerated and all products will have an expiry date, but either the pharmacist or myself will provide full directions.
